Week 31-To Meet List, Day 2-Sarah Jessica Parker

It’s no secret that I am a huge Sex & the City, and Sarah Jessica Parker fan.  Just tonight I was watching some of SATC season 2 as I relaxed on the couch.  Some people meditate or do yoga to relax, I watch SJP.  My first choice is always reruns of Carrie and her friends, but I could watch any movie Sarah is in a million times over.  Part of my admiration for her goes back to her timeless beauty and grace, but her big heart and generous spirit really makes me a fan.  I could go on and on about how much I love her, but SJP’s actions speak a lot louder than my words ever could.  Get ready to fall in love.

Even though she’s not Carrie Bradshaw in real life, SJP does seem to share a lot of the same characteristics of the character that made her iconic.  Number one on the list, fashion.  So it makes sense that SJP would be a supporter of Shoe Revolt which is a non-profit that is fighting human sex-trafficking with fashion.  SR raises money by selling shoes online that have been donated to their cause.  Most are only $10-15 so really anyone can revolt!  What are they gonna do with all that money?  I’m glad you asked.  Their goal is to build 51 shelters, one for each state and D.C., where victims are provided with long-term care for up to 24 months.  These shelters will help provide basic needs in a loving environment, and offer mentoring and counseling for these courageous survivors.  SJP has donated some blue Frye boots, some taupe heels, and even some sequined flats.  A diverse group of donations for a diverse lady.  Buying shoes is fun, but standing up against sexual exploration is serious business.  SJP has also been an ambassador for UNICEF since 1998, but she is also an avid supporter of the Food Bank For New York City.  With over 3 million New Yorkers having difficulty buying food FBNYC provides over 400,000 meals a day.  Food prices are only getting higher, and food supply is only getting lower so charities like FBNYC will be needed more and more in the future.  For 27 years they have been distributing food, helping individuals with income support, and providing nutritional education to families.  FBNYC also received the Mighty Apple Award, for the most fresh produce collected from Feeding America for distribution to the network, for the fifth time in six years.  Hey when SJP picks a charity, she goes big.

So here’s to you Sarah Jessica Parker!  You won me over many years ago, but you’ve kept me coming back to see what good and loving project you will support next.  You’re a mom, a wife, an actress, a volunteer, an advocate, and an inspiration.  Thank you for being fabulous in fashion, movies, television, and life.

Week 10-Groups of ten, Day 2-Toes

Today was my first time getting out on my own and exploring the bustling metropolis of Morgantown.  I explored the Walgreens, Target, and the ever popular Wal-Mart.  So maybe I could have been a little more adventurous but my practical side got the best of me today.  As I was walking around exploring the stores, looking at shoes I don’t need, I became very thankful fo my ten little toes.  They may need a good schlacking right now but they still get me where I need to go.

I know I’ve already blogged about being thankful for my shoes but when so many people go without this bare essential, can you really blog about it to often?  I think not.  Heal to toe charity helps people who have gone through unforeseen circumstances get back on their feet, literally.  HTT provides free shoes, socks, hoisery, and foot health products to those in need.HTT focuses their efforts on homeless shelters, battered women’s shelters, and children.  Our toes are also great because, just like today, they help our feet do things.  The people behind Food on Foot realized this and decided to use their toes for good.  They have fed the hungry since 1996.  They also have a Work for Food program that gives homeless volunteers a hot meal and $10 food gift card to fill a couple of bags with the trash lining the streets of Hollywood.  One set of toes setting another set of toes in the right direction.  That’s what I call foot service.  Oh, and Neil Patrick Harris is a big supporter of FOF for all you How I Met Your Mother fans out there.

So here’s to you toes!  You’ve wiggled your way into this week of thankfulness for all things in tens.  Just like your hand counterpart you are unique to each one of us.  So clean em, cut em, paint em, and send those piggies out into the world to give back.

Week 3-Stuff, Day 7-My shoes

Ahhh Carrie

This may come as a shock to everyone out there but, as a woman I am extremely thankful for my shoes.  Boots, flats, stilettos, wedges, sandals, flip flops, the list goes on and on.  Shoes can make an outfit, they can make your whole day, and they can even make you taller when genetics couldn’t.  As Carrie Bradshaw said, “It’s really hard to walk in a single woman’s shoes — that’s why you sometimes need really special shoes!”

TOMS rocks

I can not imagine growing up barefoot, but there are countless children around the world that never own a pair of shoes during their childhood.  Some of you might have heard of this little company called TOMS shoes.  Founder Blake Mycoskie had the ingenious idea to give a new pair of shoes to a child in need for every pair of shoes the company sold.  The now trademarked One for One movement.  As of September of this year TOMS has donated over A MILLION pairs of shoes to kids in need.  You can even help kids on your wedding day with their adorable (and comfortable!) nuptial styles.  Oh and one more thing, be sure you register for the One Day Without Shoes movement to raise awareness for the importance of shoes.  I just did while writing this.

Soles4Souls charity believes in changing the world one pair at a time.  They have donated over 12 million, yes really, new and gently used shoes to people all across the world.  What I really love about S4S is the multitude of ways you can get involved with their organization.  You can donate a pair or shoes, donate $10, travel with S4S to distribute shoes around the world, organize a shoe drive, or host a fundraiser through your school.

So here’s to you my shoes!  I am thankful for each and every pair of you!  You have walked me through life and supported me on my journey to become who I am today.  I may not be able to walk a mile in someone else’s shoes, but I have no problem helping them get a new pair!
